How should balanoposthitis be treated?

Patient's question:

A 38-year-old male has had this issue for some time. I've noticed that my glans is particularly dry, and there seems to be some flaky substance falling off, like dandruff. It also feels itchy and painful. Is this balanitis? Please ask: How should I treat phimosis and balanitis?

Doctor's answer:

1. Balanoposthitis refers to the inflammation of the inner foreskin and glans penis. Local treatment can be applied with anti-inflammatory ointment. For allergic balanoposthitis, oral antihistamines and topical ointment should be taken.
2. Circumcision may be considered: If phimosis or foreskin edema makes it impossible to move and clean, or if drainage is poor, and the inflammation does not subside with general treatment, a preputial incision can be performed to facilitate drainage. Circumcision should be performed after the inflammation has completely resolved.
Precautions: Avoid spicy and irritating foods, alcohol, and smoking. Pay attention to personal hygiene, clean frequently, keep it dry, and avoid tight underwear.
