Patient's question:
These days, I've been feeling discomfort in my testicles. When I touch them, they feel swollen, as if I can only feel one. The situation is very abnormal. Even wearing underwear makes me feel uncomfortable. I went for a check-up and was told it's epididymitis. It's very painful. Could you please tell me what are the clinical symptoms of acute epididymitis?Doctor's answer:
Chronic epididymitis is more common than acute epididymitis. Some patients develop it from incomplete healing during the acute phase, but most patients have no history of acute episodes and often accompany chronic prostatitis. Symptoms may include scrotal pain, swelling, and a sense of heaviness, which can radiate to the lower abdomen, groin, and the inner side of the same thigh. There may be a history of intermittent epididymal swelling and pain. Therefore, this condition often leads to secondary complications such as posterior urethritis, prostatitis, and seminal vesiculitis.Acute epididymitis develops rapidly, characterized by swelling and pain in the affected scrotum with a sense of heaviness. The pain may also radiate to the same side groin and lower abdomen, accompanied by high fever. Both acute symptoms and signs gradually subside within one week.
