Features: Since the reform and opening-up, China has achieved significant increases in grain production, the feed industry has rapidly developed, and pig farming has also seen substantial growth. The pig farming model has shifted from traditional methods to large-scale, intensive, fast-paced, and lean-type pig farming. The pig market circulation has never been more vibrant; the introduction of pig breeds from domestic and international sources has become increasingly frequent and in larger quantities, presenting a very promising situation. However, challenges such as a higher risk of disease outbreaks and the potential for large-scale epidemics have also emerged. Without the guidance of scientific knowledge for diagnosing and treating diseases, the potential risks are immeasurable. The current situation urgently calls for the popularization and improvement of pig disease prevention and control knowledge to ensure the healthy development of the pig farming industry. To this end, we have combined the current realities of pig farming in China, drawing on over 40 years of experience in teaching, research, production, and clinical practice, to write this book. The book is divided into six parts: Infectious Diseases, Parasitic Diseases, Internal Diseases, Toxic Diseases, Surgical Diseases, and Obstetric Diseases. In addition to describing general diseases, this book focuses on common, prevalent, and highly damaging diseases, explaining the diagnosis and treatment techniques for each, including identifying pathogens, understanding epidemic characteristics, distinguishing symptoms, key diagnostic points, and effective prevention and control methods. It also provides appropriate introductions to emerging diseases to enhance awareness and achieve the goal of prevention first. The content of this book is practical, the language is easy to understand, and it is richly illustrated. Through self-study, farmers or specialized households can master the diagnosis and treatment techniques for common and prevalent pig diseases and apply them to production practices, thereby improving the survival rate of piglets and reducing losses caused by diseases.
