Features: The transportation network in China has been established, including railways, highways, waterways, and aviation. Since the reform and opening-up, China's highway construction has achieved great success. In 2002, the total operating length of railways in China reached 71,900 kilometers, with passenger volume reaching 105.606 million trips and freight volume reaching 204.246 million tons. By the end of 2002, the fixed-line telephone switching capacity of China's public network had reached 284 million lines, with 214 million fixed-line subscribers; mobile phone users had reached 210 million. The overall telephone penetration rate in China was 33.7%, with mobile phone penetration reaching 16.19%. The scale of fixed-line and mobile phone users ranked second in the world.
