Patient's question:
Ultrasound examination revealed: Uterus size 63·47 mm, anterior position, not smooth, heterogeneous muscle wall echoes. A heterogeneous echo area measuring 40·36·29 mm was observed in the left posterior wall muscle layer, with clear boundaries. The endometrial echoes were homogeneous, with a thickness of 8 mm. Multiple fluid areas were seen in the cervical canal, the largest measuring approximately 9·8 mm, with clear boundaries.Doctor's answer:
Hormone therapy can be used. Androgens have the effect of counteracting estrogens, promoting endometrial atrophy, causing contraction of the uterine muscle layer and vascular smooth muscle, and reducing blood loss. Surgical treatment should be considered for cases that are ineffective after long-term conservative treatment, or when symptoms are significant, the fibroids are large, accompanied by anemia and rapid growth. For women with uterine fibroids who are older, have significant symptoms, and do not have further fertility requirements, a total hysterectomy should be performed.
