Features: The purpose of this book is to present the core ideas of the emerging research field of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) wireless channel modulation design. Our discussion aims to describe the key principles of various mathematical and engineering methods that will appear in current or future standards. We choose to explore and study multi-antenna transmitter-receiver technology from the perspective of signal processing, avoiding the physical aspects of actual antenna units in mobile or fixed-line communication units. This approach is often used when proposing and elaborating on new coding and modulation concepts for wireless systems. This book introduces multi-antenna transmitter-receiver technology and its impact on the design of 3G and future mobile communication systems, separately discussing the application of multi-antenna transmitter-receiver technology in open-loop transmission systems and closed-loop transmission systems. The book covers the influence of multi-antenna technology on the design of 3G and future mobile communication systems. The application to WCDMA downlink is our primary motivation, but the methods adopted are not limited to the downlink direction or innovations in WCDMA systems. Most of the research methods are applicable to general 3G and 4G systems, such as multi-transmitter/receiver, which can be used in wireless LANs (local area networks). The methods adopted will be one of the baseband signal processing methods.
