Post-menstrual bleeding for 7 days, then blood again, what's going on?

Patient's question:

After the procedure, the doctor said to come back for a follow-up in ten days. At first, there wasn't much bleeding, but starting from the third day, it has been bleeding continuously. It has already been seven days since the procedure, and now there is blood again. What could be the reason? Is it possible that the surgery wasn't successful and there was an infection?

Doctor's answer:

After the procedure, there may be a small amount of vaginal bleeding. The bleeding usually lasts for 3 to 7 days, most commonly not exceeding 2 weeks. The amount of bleeding is less than that of a normal menstrual period. Intermittent bleeding within half a month is perfectly normal. If there is no abdominal pain, you can wait and see. If the bleeding increases or the duration is less than 2 weeks, you should go to the hospital for an ultrasound to check if the uterine cavity is completely empty. If there is any remaining tissue, a D&C procedure may be necessary. Please note that sexual intercourse and tub baths are not allowed for one month after the procedure. Wishing you good health!
