Ovulation bleeding

Patient's question:

Ovulation bleeding, small amount of blood, discharge is coffee-colored

Doctor's answer:

Hello, the reasons for ovulatory bleeding include the following points:
(1) Decreased estrogen secretion. During ovulation, a decline in estrogen levels may lead to insufficient support for the normal growth of the uterine lining, resulting in light bleeding. After ovulation, when the corpus luteum forms and secretes sufficient estrogen and progesterone, the uterine lining is repaired, and bleeding stops.
(2) Luteal phase deficiency. If the corpus luteum is underactive, it may secrete insufficient estrogen and progesterone to support the uterine lining. Alternatively, if the uterine lining is unresponsive, light bleeding may occur several days before the expected menstrual period, followed by normal menstruation.
(3) Incomplete luteal regression that persists for too long. Due to incomplete luteal regression, estrogen and progesterone levels do not decline quickly, leading to irregular shedding of the uterine lining and subsequent bleeding.
(4) Delayed endometrial repair. After menstruation, if the next cycle's follicle fails to grow and develop promptly, estrogen secretion may be insufficient to promote proper regeneration and healing of the uterine lining, causing the menstrual period to extend beyond the ovulatory phase.
Treatment options include taking ethinyl estradiol and hemostatic agents.
