Features: In a series of discoveries about the Moon, there is a strange phenomenon: unusual mass tumors exist within the Moon, and not just one. How can the Moon develop tumors? What type of tumors are they? Scientists have confirmed that the Moon contains "tumors," specifically mass tumors. These mass tumors within the Moon were not discovered through medical examinations using scientific instruments. Instead, they were inferred from the gravitational variations of artificial celestial bodies orbiting the Moon.
From August 1966 to August 1967, the United States actively prepared for human lunar landing, launching a total of five "Lunar Orbiter" spacecraft. After reaching the Moon, these orbiters became artificial lunar satellites, enabling comprehensive close-range exploration of the Moon. During their orbits around the Moon, the orbiters sometimes experienced inexplicable vibrations and tilts. This abnormal movement caused great concern among astronauts, who became highly vigilant. They discovered that whenever the orbiters approached the lunar seas, vibrations and tilts occurred. The closest approach of the spacecraft to the lunar surface was over 40 kilometers. Could these strange vibrations really be related to the lunar seas? The lunar seas have very flat surfaces. What peculiar substances could be present there? Was this perhaps just a coincidence?
After rigorous thinking and multiple verifications, scientists concluded that this was related to the material beneath the lunar seas and, more specifically, to their formation. Once this correlation was confirmed, scientists further wondered: How were the lunar seas formed? What peculiar substances were beneath them? What force was causing the spacecraft vibrations? Was it interference from waves or the effect of light? None of these seemed plausible. The most likely explanation was an increase in gravitational pull.
The next question was: Why did these lunar seas exhibit gravitational anomalies? Naturally, there must be highly dense, abnormal objects beneath them. These objects, within the Moon, acted like "swellings." Therefore, scientists gave this substance a vivid name: lunar mass tumors. After billions of years, foreign objects hidden within the Moon had not escaped the keen eyes of scientists.
How were lunar mass tumors formed? Current theories are divided into internal and external explanations. The internal theory suggests that impacts from large meteorites on the lunar surface triggered the outflow of dense lunar lava from within. Scientists who advocate the external theory believe that all lunar seas were formed by the impact of large meteorites on the Moon's surface. These small celestial bodies have a higher density than the original lunar crust. As a result, they punched into the surface, forming "tumors" within the Moon. In other words, mass tumors are mixtures of residual foreign celestial bodies and lunar rock.
Indeed, these remain hypotheses, and the lunar mass tumors remain an unsolved mystery. Because the Moon is spherical, we can only see one "side" of it at a time. The other side is hidden behind its own body, as if veiled in a mysterious shroud, making it difficult to fathom.
In 1964, the United States successfully launched the "Ranger 7" spacecraft, which sent back over 4,000 lunar images. From these photographs, we can observe that the far side of the Moon...
