Features: In the past, there was a belief that obesity was merely a condition or a symptom, and as a result, many hospitals did not establish specialized departments for treating obesity. Due to differences in understanding, weight loss was generally considered part of health maintenance and was purely a personal behavior. Moreover, many obese patients underwent treatment in secret, fearing their colleagues at work would find out. Some were afraid their families would discover it, and even some patients who took weight-loss medication would tear off the labels on the bottles before returning them for consumption.
With the improvement of people's living standards, dietary structures have changed, leading to an increase in energy intake. On the other hand, the automation of production and daily life has significantly reduced the intensity of labor. For example, laundry is handed over to washing machines, cleaning is outsourced to part-time workers, and office work involves sitting at a computer. As a result, it is easy to accumulate excess energy in the body, which is stored as fat. Excessive fat accumulation in the body leads to obesity. Anyone with fat stored in the body exceeding the standard weight by 20% is considered obese. The international medical community has already recognized that obesity is not just a condition but a disease, characterized by excessive fat accumulation in the body beyond normal needs and being harmful to health. Obesity not only affects physical appearance, making it difficult to achieve a flattering silhouette in clothing, but also reduces work and labor efficiency. More importantly, it increases the risk of developing various diseases, such as hypertension, cerebrovascular diseases, coronary heart disease, fatty liver, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, gout, and infertility in women and male infertility, among others.
Therefore, a weight exceeding the standard by 20% is considered obesity. Since it is a disease, it is necessary to openly seek treatment at a specialized obesity clinic in a regular hospital. In China, the number of obese people has been increasing year by year. Obesity does not align with modern aesthetic standards, making it difficult for many people to maintain a slim figure or wear stylish clothing. Many people strive to lose weight for this reason. After weight loss, they experience difficulty in movement, severely impacting their daily work and life, adding many worries and pains. They also endure certain external pressures psychologically. More importantly, obesity affects quality of life, especially for women, such as in marriage, relationships, sexual life, fertility, pregnancy, and childbirth. Obesity poses many health risks, such as a significantly higher incidence of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases, and fatty liver. These diseases severely affect people's health. Therefore, to prevent diseases, it is essential to start at the source by mastering scientific knowledge about preventing and reducing obesity. This holds great significance for improving human health levels.
Obesity not only affects physical appearance and work efficiency but more importantly, it increases the risk of developing multiple diseases. The most common include diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, fatty liver, coronary heart disease, gallstones, and gout.
