Publishing Date: 2005-07-01
Features: This book is part of the "Modern Famous Critics Series." Due to its early publication date, its layout and format differ from the subsequent books in the series. At the readers' request, Professor Cheng Guangwei has revised the original book, collected relevant images, and republished it. Zhou Zuoren, a meritorious warrior of the May Fourth New Culture Movement, a master of a major branch of prose tradition, and the brother of Lu Xun, later bowed to the puppet regime, lost his reputation and faced widespread condemnation. "Who has ever judged the merits and demerits of the ages?" Criticism is a state of affairs where the pros and cons are revealed, and it does not necessarily require rigorous, comprehensive, or grand research. Observations and impressions from a specific time, place, or perspective are all acceptable. Short or long, it is all points of view, gathering the diverse criticisms of the same person from different times and places, creating waves from a drop of water, and even temporarily "dissolving" certain authority to recreate "inclusiveness," allowing readers to judge—isn't that a good thing?
This book is compiled by Professor Cheng Guangwei of the Chinese Department at Renmin University of China, an expert in the study of Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren. For the first time, it systematically and comprehensively compiles and organizes materials related to Zhou Zuoren's research. It includes the main research achievements on Zhou Zuoren from 1919 to 1999. The preface and the "Index of Zhou Zuoren Materials" at the end of the book are particularly valuable. The former outlines the research status of Zhou Zuoren and the selection criteria of this book, while the latter meticulously collects and organizes the bibliographies of all materials related to the study of Zhou Zuoren, making it extremely valuable.
