Features: Auricular acupoints are distributed in specific areas on the auricle, known as auricular zones. The distribution of auricular zones on the front of the auricle resembles an inverted fetus inside the uterus of the mother, while on the back of the auricle, it resembles a person kneeling with knees bent, curving inward and bowing. Generally, the relationship between auricular point distribution on the front of the auricle is as follows:
(1) Auricular helix corresponds to the face: including the upper and lower jaw, upper and lower palate, eyes, etc.
(2) Opposite tragus corresponds to the head: including subcortex, occipital, forehead, and asthma-relieving zones.
(3) Auricular crus corresponds to the diaphragm.
(4) Opposite crus corresponds to the spine: the inner part includes the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae; the raised part includes the neck, chest, and abdomen.
(5) Upper crus of opposite crus corresponds to the lower limbs: including toes, heels, ankles, and knees.
(6) Lower crus of opposite crus corresponds to the buttocks: including sciatic nerve, buttocks, and sympathetic zones.
(7) Triangle fossa corresponds to the reproductive organs: including uterine appendages and Shenmen (calming point).
(8) Auricular concha corresponds to the upper limbs: including clavicle, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and fingers.
(9) Tragus corresponds to the inner nose, pharynx, and adrenal glands.
(10) Supratragus notch corresponds to the ear.
(11) Intertragus notch corresponds to the endocrine system and ovaries.
(12) Auricular conchae corresponds to the abdomen: including liver, spleen, pancreas-bile, kidney, and bladder.
(13) Auricular cavity corresponds to the chest: including heart, lungs, and triple energizer.
(14) Periphery of auricular crus corresponds to the digestive system: including mouth, esophagus, cardiac sphincter, stomach, duodenum, appendix, large intestine, etc.
The relationship between auricular point distribution on the back of the auricle is as follows:
(1) Posterior convexity of triangle fossa corresponds to the head: including headache, spinal cord, etc.
(2) Posterior convexity of auricular concha corresponds to the skull, spine, and body: including top of the head, crown, central, cisterna magna, spine, and dorsum.
(3) Posterior convexity of auricular conchae corresponds to internal organs and their functions: including neck sensitivity, sedation, pharynx, upper abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, kidney cyst, ear root, and ulcer.
(4) Bead-shaped prominence corresponds to new acupoints: including emptiness and restlessness.
Regarding the functions and indications of auricular points, please refer to the upcoming book Practical Auricular Point Therapy (Auricular Point Therapy and Family Health Care) by Chen Kangmei for detailed information. Below is a brief description of the main therapeutic effects of commonly used auricular points:
(1) Upper and lower jaw, upper and lower palate, forehead, and eyes primarily treat disorders in their respective areas. For example:
- Upper and lower jaw: treat toothache, jaw lock, submandibular lymphadenitis, submandibular arthritis, and are used for tooth extraction.
- Upper and lower palate: used for periodontitis and oral ulcers.
- Eyes: used for eye disorders and photokeratitis.
- Forehead: treat forehead disorders such as sinusitis, toothache, and dizziness.
(2) Subcortex, occipital, and asthma-relieving points:
- Subcortex has a calming, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effect and can be used for vasculitis, agiathria, and conditions like gastric and uterine prolapse.
- Occipital has anti-inflammatory and shock-resistant effects and can be used for neurological, respiratory, and skin disorders. It can also treat headaches, neurasthenia, motion sickness, and seasickness.
(3) Asthma-relieving, lung, trachea, bronchus, and lung points: used for respiratory system disorders, improving ventilation, and treating adenitis (asthma-relieving point) and skin diseases (lung point).
(4) Heart, hypertension point, blood point, blood base point, hypotensive groove, and hypertensive groove: primarily used for circulatory system disorders and have effects on adjusting pulse rate, heart rhythm, and blood pressure.
(5) Uterus, appendages, ovary, and perineum: used for gynecological disorders such as irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and infertility.
(6)1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, tonsil 1, 2, 3, 4, and ear tip: have anti-inflammatory effects and treat fever and upper respiratory infections. Ear tip can also lower enzyme levels, protect the liver, and reduce blood pressure.
(7) Esophagus, cardiac sphincter, stomach-duodenum, large and small intestine, and appendix: primarily used for digestive system disorders. The esophagus can treat dysphagia, the cardiac sphincter can stop nausea and vomiting, the stomach can be used for schizophrenia and indigestion, the duodenum treats pyloric spasm, and the small intestine can treat palpitations.
(8) Urethra, bladder, ureter, and kidney: primarily used for urinary system disorders. The bladder can treat enuresis and urinary retention, the kidney is a strengthening point and treats lower back pain, deafness, and tinnitus, and is effective for hearing loss, loose teeth, and hair loss.
(9) Liver: in addition to treating liver disorders, it also treats blood diseases, rheumatism, iron-deficiency anemia, vasculitis, agiathria, eye disorders, and costal pain.
(10) Spleen: used for abdominal 8 long and indigestion, and is effective for digestive system disorders and muscular atrophy.
(11) Endocrine: regulates endocrine function and is used for dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, and digestive system disorders. It can also combat allergies and rheumatism.
(12) Adrenal: primarily used for increasing blood pressure and combating allergies. It can also stop bleeding, reduce fever, anti-inflammatory, combat allergies and rheumatism, and stimulate the respiratory center.
(13) Subcortex: has a calming, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effect and can be used for vasculitis, agiathria, gastric and uterine prolapse.
(14) Yishan and Yilun: can be used for tinnitus and deafness.
(15) Chen point: has an elevating effect and is often used for conditions with sinking symptoms.
