Features: Henan is one of the main birthplaces of Chinese civilization. It possesses world-famous sites such as the Nanzhao Ape Man, the Peiligang Culture, the Yangshao Culture, and the Longshan Culture. Throughout history, more than 20 dynasties have established their capitals in Henan. The ancient capital of thirteen dynasties, Luoyang, the ancient capital of seven dynasties, Kaifeng, and the ancient capital of the Yin Shang dynasty, Anyang, all demonstrate that Henan has served as the political, economic, and cultural center of China at different periods.
The Series of Excavated Coins from Henan is organized into several volumes based on the administrative divisions of Henan Province. If the manuscript of a particular region is not substantial enough to form a complete volume, it is combined with manuscripts from relevant or nearby prefectures for publication. The content of each volume primarily focuses on the coin materials excavated and discovered in the respective prefecture or city, emphasizing the introduction of the excavation conditions, the types and varieties of coins, their materials, and other related aspects. Additionally, the series provides insightful analyses and research on the excavated coins, striving for a balance between text and illustrations to highlight the documentary and academic value of the work.
Investigating, organizing, and researching the coin discoveries and excavations in a province over nearly half a century to compile a series of books on coin excavation and research is a pioneering effort in China. In terms of editorial style, content arrangement, and the selection of coin images, there are no existing precedents to follow.
