Features: Twenty years ago, if you told someone you wanted to collect, they would likely say, "Are you crazy?" Fifteen years ago, if you mentioned you liked antiques, they would dismissively ask, "Are you dealing in stolen cultural relics?" Ten years ago, if you said you were investing in art, people would give you a sideways glance and mutter, "Stop showing off!" The world changes so quickly. China of twenty years ago is now worlds apart from today. With increasingly improved material lives, people have more time and resources to pursue cultural, spiritual, and emotional comfort and joy. Suddenly, they discovered that "collecting" can bring countless values. Whether you seek fame, elegance, or profit, it can fulfill your desires. As a result, in the past seven or eight years, "collecting" has spread like a joyful virus. According to incomplete statistics, by the end of 2003, there were 80,000,000 collectors in China, and this number continues to grow. Collecting allows the nation to reflect on the glorious achievements of our ancestors and enables society to appreciate the innovations of our national culture. Collecting is not just treasure; it is also another manifestation of civilization, encouraging more people to cherish and value the spirits left by these historical eras!
On the journey of collecting, there is one skill that everyone relentlessly pursues, a pursuit that never ends—it is called "authentication!" For a collector, authentication is like a soldier in battle must carry a gun. Many say that authentication is difficult. In fact, it is neither mystical nor a special ability; it is merely a hidden spring in your heart. With the right frequency, anyone can develop this skill. Eight years ago, due to my work and personal interests, I established an independent collecting website on the Internet, which quickly grew into the online platform "Hanlong Net" (http://www.hanaga.com) with tens of thousands of users and thousands of gigabytes of information. Through countless online interactions with collecting friends, "Hanlong" introduced a groundbreaking column in the digital world: "Online Authentication." On this platform, I exchanged notes with collecting enthusiasts from around the world day by day, leaving behind millions of words of collecting insights. Over the years, these writings have been read and excerpted by hundreds of thousands of collectors worldwide, allowing them to easily experience the joy of authentication and further appreciate the pleasures of collecting.
In early 2004, these writings were compiled into the six-volume set of "Treasure Authentication" that you see today. The book provides detailed illustrations and information on the various fakes and authentic items commonly found in today's collecting market, with corresponding authentication answers and appreciation points for each. The book includes nearly 4,000 images and can answer most of the questions you might encounter in the first three years of your collecting journey. I am confident that it will save you tens of thousands of dollars in lessons from buying fakes.
Finally, I sincerely thank all my friends from all over the world who corresponded with me. Without your encouragement and support, "Online Authentication" would never have become what it is, nor would it have become a part of the collecting lives of countless wise and dear friends...
