Features: Suzhou is a historic cultural city with a long history. Since its founding by King Helü of Wu in 514 BC, it has stood for over 2,500 years. Throughout the ages, records of its rise and decline have been documented, accumulating a wealth of local historical materials. Statistics show that there are over 180 types of prefectural and county annals in the Suzhou region, totaling more than 1,000 volumes. Additionally, there are numerous specialized annals on towns, villages, mountains, rivers, gardens, pavilions, temples, and shrines. Unfortunately, due to limited print runs in the past and the turmoil over the centuries, preserving these works has been challenging, making many of them rare and difficult to access. To meet the needs of modernization and fully leverage the role of local annals in preserving history, providing governance insights, and promoting education, in accordance with the guidelines of the China Local Annals Guidance Group for the compilation of old annals, we have selectively annotated and reprinted famous Suzhou annals in batches for reference by various sectors and researchers.
