Features: This book serves as a companion volume to "Land-Sea Interaction in the Yangtze, Pearl River Estuaries and Adjacent Seas," collecting some of the project's partial achievements. The book is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 reviews and summarizes the main issues, scientific objectives, development dynamics, and research progress of the international and Chinese LOICZ projects. Chapter 2 focuses on the acidification trend of the Yangtze River water body from 1968 to 2000, clarifying the relationship between water body acidification and riverine nutrient transport. Combined with numerical experiments on the mechanism of freshwater diffusion in the Yangtze River estuary, it analyzes the distribution, transport, and diffusion mechanisms of materials entering the sea. By comprehensively analyzing historical and field observation data, it discusses the distribution characteristics and evolution patterns of suspended matter in the Yangtze River estuary and the East China Sea. Chapter 3 utilizes multi-year historical data and multi-mission field observations to conduct a comparative analysis of hydrological characteristics in the offshore waters of the Yangtze River estuary during summer and winter. From a climatological perspective, it provides a detailed analysis of the main water mass distribution and its seasonal variations in the study area. Using various statistical analysis methods, it examines the seasonal changes in the hydrological environment near Zhoushan Fishery Ground and their relationship with the formation and evolution of the fishery. Chapter 4 focuses on the issue of phytoplankton nutrient limitation in the adjacent waters of the Yangtze River estuary during summer, exploring the relationship between phytoplankton distribution and Yangtze River runoff, as well as the impact of mixed water in the estuary and phosphate and nitrate on the growth of Skeletonema costatum. Chapter 5 discusses the transport mechanism and variation characteristics of Yellow River sediment discharge, studying the influence of precipitation, human activities, and sediment transport in the lower reaches of the Yellow River on the sediment discharge into the sea, as well as the response of the Yellow River delta's land-building process to basin environmental factors.
