Our generation

Features: This is the first time I’ve written so many words in my life. To have these words published along with my pictures makes me feel very uneasy. I sincerely hope everyone enjoys this book. Over these long and rushed days, both I and the friends in my book have experienced so many things. These events are happening now, and some have already become distant past. During these years, some people have been striving upward every day, some have stopped or even gone back, and others have left us—Gu Cheng, Xie Ye, and Zhang Ju from the band "Tang Dynasty," of course, along with several other people not mentioned in this book. Today, everyone in this book is aging day by day, but we are still working harder and harder. We are grateful that the vast majority of us have taken a step into a new century. We are a generation that crossed the century, a generation of hardship and fortune.
The subjects of We of This Generation were all born in the 1950s and 1960s and are today’s elite or rising stars in the cultural and literary world: Jia Pingwa, Mang Ke, Chen Kaige, Jiang Wen, Cui Jian, Yang Liping, He Dalong.
Using a realist lens and detailed text, the author records the lost, desires, and struggles against fate of this generation. Ordinary life scenes, combined with nearly 100,000 words of "rambling"—these "celebrities" are stripped of their halos, returning to their ordinary lives. Under the lens, different faces reveal the same calm and serenity. "To photograph someone is to photograph the best version of them in their life."
