Features: This dictionary is based on the Example-Based New Japanese Dictionary (Second Edition, 1987). The original dictionary was compiled by renowned language experts such as Dr. Hayashi Shiro, a PhD in Japanese literature, Nogami Motoo, Director of the National Institute of Japanese Language, and Minami Futsunosuke, Director of the Japanese Language Education Center. The main features of this new dictionary are its appropriate word selection, rich example sentences, and clear definitions. During the compilation process, we fully paid attention to the characteristics of the original dictionary. Compared to general dictionaries, this book has the following distinctions:
1. Careful selection of common vocabulary. This dictionary includes frequently used words found in Japanese elementary and secondary school textbooks and other student reading materials, making the words highly socially relevant. It also carefully selects newly emerging words and commonly used loanwords from recent years. Additionally, idioms, proverbs, and set phrases are included after the entries. This dictionary contains over 45,000 entries, excluding derivative words of Chinese characters.
2. Accurate and clear definitions. Each Japanese word has a corresponding Chinese translation. Many entries include an Expression section and a Reference section, providing detailed explanations of usage contexts, differences from synonyms, etymology, and abbreviations. Most entries are accompanied by abundant example words and sentences, which are very helpful for deeply understanding and correctly using Japanese.
3. Significant proportion of Chinese character entries. These are entries that appear as single Chinese characters, along with all their derivative words, which are listed together. This compilation method greatly aids in mastering the word formation of Japanese Chinese characters.
4. Pinyin tones marked for each entry. This allows readers to understand the standard pronunciation.
5. A "Language Plaza" section is included, with 61 entries. These are categorized into five major sections: Word Expansion, Word Knowledge, Word Usage, Flexible Word Application, and Methods of Understanding Words. It systematically and deeply introduces fundamental knowledge of Japanese.
6. A "Classical Language" section is also included, with 68 entries. These are basic classical vocabulary frequently appearing in Japanese high school Classical language textbooks. The annotations for these entries differ from general classical language dictionaries: in addition to definitions, they explain the similarities and differences between classical and modern words, as well as the evolution of classical language. This helps readers gain a deeper understanding and accurate grasp of the meaning of these words. Example sentences are presented in the form of "cases," allowing readers to understand the usage context, the background of the works, and the mindset of the characters, etc.
