Features: "Lu Qian's Historical and Literary Essays" is the second volume of "Jiye Wenchao." An appendix at the end of the book includes Xie Bingying's "Reminiscence of Mr. Lu Jiye." Lu Qian, styled Jiye, was also known as Yinong, and was a native of Nanjing, Jiangsu. During the Republican era, he was regarded as a "Jiangnan Scholar" and held multiple identities as a poet, literary and dramatic historian, qu (a form of Chinese lyric poetry) writer, and playwright. He was a disciple of the renowned qu scholar Wu Mei. This book includes "What is Literature," "Jiubianji," "A Short History of the Eight-legged Essay," and "Collected Essays on Ethnic Poetry." Among these, "What is Literature" is based on the 1930 edition published by Dadaoshuju, "Jiubianji" is based on the 1934 edition published by Shanghai Huwentang Xinji Bookstore, "A Short History of the Eight-legged Essay" is based on the 1937 edition published by Shanghai Shangwu Book Company, and "Collected Essays on Ethnic Poetry" is based on the 1940 edition published by Chongqing Guomin Tushupinshu. An appendix at the end of the book includes Xie Bingying's "Reminiscence of Mr. Lu Jiye."
