Features: New Interchange, one of the most popular and influential English textbooks internationally, summarizes eight years of global classroom teaching experience. It has been improved and enhanced through extensive feedback from students and teachers, making comprehensive revisions to the original Interchange. The main revisions include: new conversation exercises (Conversations), new cultural snippets (Snapshots), new reading exercises (Readings), more comprehensive grammar explanations and exercises (Grammar Focus models and activities), and richer listening materials. At the same time, the teacher's book, workbook, and video content have also been extensively revised. New Interchange is a large-scale English textbook written specifically for learners in non-English-speaking countries. The content covers four skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while also providing pronunciation training and vocabulary expansion, with a particular emphasis on developing listening and speaking skills. The primary goal of this book is to cultivate English communicative competence, i.e., the ability to flexibly use English based on communicative contexts, purposes, and audiences. The book primarily uses American English, but its content is not limited to any single country, region, or culture. Instead, it reflects the richness and diversity of English as an international lingua franca. The textbook is divided into four levels: Introductory, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
Introductory Level: Designed for "true" beginners with no English foundation, it explains basic grammar structures, vocabulary, and language functions.
Level 1: Aimed at learners with a beginner-level English proficiency, it further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills to help learners reach an intermediate-low level.
Level 2: Targeted at learners with an intermediate-low to intermediate English proficiency, it further enhances grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills to help learners achieve an intermediate level.
Level 3: Designed for learners with an intermediate English proficiency, it focuses on developing the ability to communicate in relatively fluent and accurate English.
Through a variety of thought-provoking and challenging exercises, the textbook enables students to further consolidate and develop their communicative competence in English. In addition to applied skills exercises, the textbook also includes advanced discourse comprehension exercises. Listening exercises include: listening to narratives, listening to advertisements, listening to discussions, and listening to interviews. Reading activities include: cross-cultural communication themes, lifestyle themes, themes of different values, and other authentic reading passages.
After completing all four levels, learners can achieve an intermediate-high level of proficiency.
