The first four volumes of Modern Spanish are practical textbooks for oral and written language courses for undergraduate students in their first and second years of Spanish studies at universities. They largely retain the structure and format of the Spanish published by Commercial Press (authored by the same editor), but the content of the texts has been almost entirely updated to meet the demands of the times. Additionally, considering the improved learning abilities of students, the arrangement of grammatical has been adjusted to be more concentrated, and the vocabulary has been significantly increased. To facilitate students' understanding and mastery, the translation of grammatical terms has also been appropriately adjusted based on common expressions used in Chinese and English teaching in China. The number of texts in each volume is arranged based on a 18-week teaching schedule per semester.
Volume 1 consists of 24 lessons, with the first 12 lessons focusing on pronunciation training, where 2 lessons are taught per week (calculated as 10 hours per week, with 4 hours dedicated to teaching 1 lesson and 1 hour for review). The last 12 lessons are taught 1 per week, with the focus shifting to grammar and vocabulary while not relaxing the pronunciation training. Most common grammatical points are taught in the first three volumes.
