The classic works of the great Russian writer Maxim Gorky, the "Trilogy" Childhood, In the World, and My University, are a first-person, autobiographical novel that vividly records the author's childhood and the growth process of his youth and adolescence. At the same time, it profoundly reflects the dark reality of Russia at the time, filled with a love-hate perspective and a sense of justice that promotes truth, goodness, and beauty while condemning falsehood, ugliness, and evil. It is a timeless masterpiece that combines both intellectual depth and artistic excellence, deeply moving and stirring the hearts of readers.
This classic work has had a broad and profound influence in China for over half a century, educating generations of readers. Among them, My University was adapted into a film in the Soviet Union and was particularly beloved by Chinese youth. Today, it remains an excellent work with educational and enlightening value.
The "Trilogy" has long been translated by renowned experts, and in recent years, multiple versions have emerged. Professor Zeng Chongming, a distinguished Russian language expert and translator, former president of Changchun Foreign Language College, and member of the first, second, and third boards of directors of the Chinese Society of Russian Language Teaching, meticulously revised the work during his retirement, based on the pre-1949 Soviet State Literature Publishing House edition (Moscow, Leningrad). He polished every word, revised repeatedly, and strived for perfection.
To assist young readers in reading and appreciating the work, he added "Post-Translation Notes" after each chapter, as well as book reviews titled "Preface to Translation" for Childhood, In the World, and My University. Like Childhood and In the World, My University is also a world-class masterpiece that combines intellectual depth and artistic excellence, a work of art that embodies truth, goodness, and beauty in unity.
