Li Lingchen already has a live-in girlfriend, and Li Xuran (Li Lingchen's stepfather) cannot divorce. Both women suffer through love, enduring countless hardships. In the end, Du Hongxia dies from an overdose of drugs, and Chen Ling dies from a gunshot wound while trying to save Li Lingchen. This book is divided into two parts, narrated from the perspectives of two women who are "rivals" in the emotional world, telling a tragic story from beginning to end—one woman's early death and another's lingering loss.
For some reason, after getting into the car, I felt my heart racing and my face flushing. There were only the two of us in the car, and I had just finished work and hadn’t drunk anything. I didn’t know what to say, and my hands and feet didn’t know where to put themselves. Both of us tightly gripped our handbags, pretending to gaze into the distance. Thinking back on his teasing that day, on the bright side, it was just a lapse in judgment after drinking; on the dark side, it was a woman who didn’t take herself seriously, flirting with him.
"Chen, let’s go to Jiali Lei in Zhonghua Garden. I don’t like MⅨ or empty bottles—Jiali Lei is quieter," he broke the awkward silence. I nodded mechanically, thinking, with the two of us so close, the atmosphere was too tense. If we got into the bar, it would be better.
From the nearby Science Street along the First Ring Road where my company is located, we quickly turned onto Zhonghua Garden. As soon as the car stopped, I quickly jumped out, wanting to end the awkward atmosphere as soon as possible.
"You’re so eager to drink, why are you rushing?" he gently steadied me, almost stumbling as I stepped onto the platform, as if we were long-term lovers. They say a kiss seals the deal, but was our drunken kiss really a seal of love?
Inside the bar, the hall was already filled with men and women, and we sat behind a glass wall not far from the main area. The music outside drifted in softly, and we sat in a couple’s seat, intimately chatting.
"My wife went out for some fresh air, so I’m joining her."
"Invite some more people—there’s nothing to do with just the two of us." I answered evasively.
"Talk about something else." His enchanting eyes continued to gaze at me, and I could only lower my head and remain silent. He ordered me a cocktail and himself a bottle of Borelana beer.
"Let’s drink a little less today—too much isn’t good." His words were half a hint and half concern.
"I got drunk that day—what did I do?" I looked at him. Although that kiss had crossed my mind a thousand times, I still couldn’t help but pretend to be clueless.
"Hee hee, you think about it."
"You teased me." I said, reaching out to pinch him, but my hand was tightly gripped by him. I deliberately struggled, but couldn’t bring myself to let go. Although he initially said he was looking for me because his wife had gone out for some fresh air, this man, Li Lingchen, really suited me. The pickled turnips at Jiali Lei Bar were delicious, though the performances there were average, and the drinks were no different from elsewhere. But it was quiet enough not to arouse suspicion about my taste, and this slightly down-to-earth yet refined vibe also appealed to me.
