Features: "Practical French Interpretation (Level 2)" is designed and written in accordance with the requirements of the "National Translation Professional Qualification (Level) Examination" interpretation syllabus. Based on years of practical and teaching experience in interpretation, the authors approach the subject from the perspective of the uniqueness of interpretation activities, focusing on thematic units and practical application, supplemented with appropriate skill explanations and vocabulary expansion. The aim is to expose learners to a wide range of interpretation topics and challenges, enabling them to adapt to real-world work demands. The content of this textbook is extensive, covering numerous fields such as politics, diplomacy, society, culture, economy, finance, trade and economic relations, law, and environmental protection. It aims to help learners familiarize themselves with basic vocabulary and common terminology in these fields, master the main techniques and methods of consecutive interpretation, thereby further improving their interpretation skills, and prepare for the interpretation qualification examination. The textbook consists of 16 units, each comprising the following sections: discourse interpretation, interpretation techniques, vocabulary expansion, and interpretation practice. At the end of all 16 units, reference translations for both discourse interpretation and interpretation practice are provided. Discourse interpretation includes one French-to-Chinese and one Chinese-to-French discourse each. The explanation for each discourse consists of three parts: vocabulary preview, interpretation discourse, and interpretation commentary. The vocabulary preview lists the more challenging words, phrases, and sentences in the discourse, allowing learners to preview and memorize these difficulties using reference materials before translating the entire discourse. This process is similar to the vocabulary preparation an interpreter would do before engaging in actual interpretation activities based on the topic. Since learners have a preliminary understanding of the difficulties in the discourse, they can focus more on techniques and expression during interpretation training. After completing the interpretation practice, learners should carefully read the interpretation commentary, flexibly grasp the relevant theories and techniques, and repeatedly refine their own translations until they are satisfied. We recommend that learners do not immediately refer to the reference translation after completing the interpretation practice but instead compare their own translations with the reference translations after reviewing the commentary and refining their own versions. Only in this way can learners improve through independent thinking, drawing inspiration from the better expressions and translation methods in the reference translations.
