Features: The opening remarks of the textbook's 1977 edition state: "The purpose of writing this book is to explain how to use modern macroeconomics to understand important economic issues and to help readers analyze macroeconomic issues themselves. This book is policy- and problem-oriented. These words are still true today. However, in the past 20 years, both economic and economic research have changed. This new edition reflects these changes. In this version, 40% of the material is new, or revised since the sixth edition. What remains unchanged is the authors' belief that a good textbook is written with a permanent regard for both teachers and students. While we emphasize clear and accessible explanations, we do not shy away from challenging material. Furthermore, we frankly point out the unresolved scientific puzzles in the economy. At the same time, we are very clear about the mainstream of economics. We believe that excellent teaching reflects a teacher's academic level, interests, and research capabilities, and that textbooks should facilitate this. We have organized this textbook based on our firm conviction about what is important, and provided starting points for further exploration of specific topics. We cannot determine that someone will engage in research in all these branches, but we hope that each person will explore one or more branches."
