Features: The book Fangyan Xuejian summarizes the research on Fangyan. Zhou's work uses the Song Dynasty Li Mengchuan edition as the base text, referencing the research of Qing Dynasty scholars such as Dai Zhen, Lu Wenchang, Liu Taigong, Wang Niansun, and Qian Yi, conducting meticulous comparisons and revisions to create a refined definitive edition. Professor Wu Xiaoling further compiled an Index for Fangyan Xuejian, which is appended to the book for easy reference. Many works have been written in the style of Fangyan throughout history, such as the Qing Dynasty's Xu Fangyan by Hang Shijun. This book specializes in collecting scattered dialect terms from ancient texts before the Tang and Song dynasties to supplement Fangyan. Cheng Chensheng later wrote Xu Fangyan Buzheng, Xu Naizhang added Xu Fangyan Youbu, all of which are similar works. Additionally, the modern scholar Zhang Taiyan wrote Xin Fangyan, which explains over 800 dialectal and colloquial terms, accompanied by analysis and (research), exploring the etymology of dialects and a new path in the study of dialects.
