Brahms Violin Concerto: D Major

Features: The Violin Concerto was composed between 1877 and 1878. It is the only violin concerto ever written by Brahms in his lifetime. However, this violin concerto is not only one of Brahms' greatest works but also, together with the violin concertos of masters such as Beethoven (in D major) and Mendelssohn (in E minor), and Tchaikovsky (in D major), is known as the "Four Great Concertos." The piece has a strong pastoral flavor and a touch of Hungarian folk music. The sense of serenity and depth complementing each other is a distinctive characteristic of Brahms. In this work, Brahms successfully combines the passion of Romanticism with the rigor of Classicism, and introduces many bold innovations in form.
