Publishing Date: 2006-05-01
Features: To provide readers with an ideal edition of world literary classics, we have organized and published this series of color-illustrated classic works, "The World Classics Library of World Literary Classics." The library has the following three major features:
1. Renowned Translators and Translations
"Renowned Translators and Translations" refers to two aspects: one is that the translators are famous translation scholars both domestically and internationally; the other is that the translations are of first-class quality, highly influential, and widely recognized as excellent works, representing the translation level of the classics in China and the creative level of the translators. Through this effort, we aim to change the current situation in China where translations of world literary classics are mixed with mediocre works, even with plagiarism and distortion, leaving readers confused and uncertain.
2. Illustrations and Text
Each classic is accompanied by two types of illustrations: one is color illustrations before the main text, mostly precious images about the author, the work, and the historical background; the other is black-and-white illustrations drawn based on the plot of the work. Through these illustrations, readers are not only provided with a familiar and relaxed reading atmosphere but also gain a comprehensive and concrete understanding of the rich connotations of world literary classics.
3. Carefully Edited and Annotated
The editors systematically include key character lists, author chronologies, and other content in each translated work, complemented by the translator's precise annotations. This helps readers overcome reading obstacles and learn relevant knowledge, enabling them to read world literary classics comprehensively, deeply, and efficiently. We hope that this series of color-illustrated classic works, "The World Classics Library of World Literary Classics," can become a lifelong mentor and friend for readers.
"The Essays of Bacon" is the cornerstone of English essay literature, renowned for its concise language, elegant style, profound reasoning, and striking maxims. It holds a very important position in the history of world literature. Reading it is like receiving guidance from a wise person, bringing great benefits. It has been translated into many languages and remains best-selling to this day. In 1985, it was selected by American LIFE magazine as one of the 20 greatest books in human history. That same year, it was included in the recommended list of the American Book of Good Reading.
Bacon was the most outstanding philosopher and writer of the English Renaissance and the true founder of British materialism and the entire modern experimental science. He achieved remarkable success not only in literature and philosophy but also in the field of natural sciences, earning him the titles of "the tongue of the law" and "the light of science."
