Features: Since 1999, the Institute of Sociology of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences has collaborated with the Office of the Municipal Internal Conflict Identification and Prevention Leading Group, the Municipal Letters and Visits Office, the Municipal Public Security Bureau, the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and other relevant departments of the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government to conduct multiple research studies on social stability and social harmony. These include issues such as the proper handling of internal contradictions among the people, the establishment of a letters and visits work mechanism, countermeasures for maintaining social stability, the development of a social stability indicator system, prominent issues of internal contradictions among the people and mass incidents, and related issues concerning the construction of a harmonious society. These studies have played their due role in formulating relevant policies for Beijing. This is the main outcome of the aforementioned research.
