Features: This book is a monograph of research achievements in this field in China, containing three parts: 1) It analyzes and elaborates on the basic characteristics, geographical distribution patterns, and changes in the natural water quality of major rivers in China over the past half-century under the influence of human activities, as well as the causes and mechanisms of these changes; 2) It analyzes and elaborates on the geochemical properties and surface properties of sediment in major rivers in China and their regional distribution rules, as well as the impact of these properties on the behavior of trace pollutants (heavy metals and toxic organic compounds) in the sediment; 3) It analyzes and elaborates on the influence of the interaction between sediment and water in rivers on water quality, as well as the problems and solutions in the monitoring, evaluation, and management of water quality in multi-sediment rivers. Most of the data on river water quality in China presented in this book are based on the author's analysis of data from over 1,000 hydrological stations in China from 1960 to 2000.
