Features: This book is a systematic research outcome of Topic 4—“Research on Dynamic Control Methods of Reservoir Flood Limit Water Level” from the major scientific and technological project of the Ministry of Water Resources, “Research on the Design and Operation of Reservoir Flood Limit Water Level.” It also includes partial research results from the National Natural Science Foundation of China project, “Theoretical and Methodological Research on Dynamic Control of Reservoir Flood Limit Water Level and Its Risk Analysis (50479056).” The book is divided into four parts based on the main research content of the project.
Part 1: Research on the Possibility of Utilizing Flood Forecast and Rainfall Forecast Information
Part 2: Determination of the Dynamic Control Domain Value of Reservoir Flood Limit Water Level, focusing on the “Forecast Dispatch Planning Method,” “Pre-storaged and Pre-release Capacity Constraint Method,” and “Reservoir Capacity Compensation Method.”
Part 3: Research on Dynamic Control Methods and Applications of Reservoir Flood Limit Water Level, focusing on the “Pre-storaged and Pre-release Method” and “Comprehensive Information Reasoning Model Method.”
Part 4: Research on Risk and Benefit Analysis Methods for Dynamic Control of Reservoir Flood Limit Water Level.
In the research, a new concept of dynamic control of reservoir flood limit water level was proposed and applied. This concept starts from the premise of an impossible event, comprehensively utilizes all useful information provided by modern science and technology to prevent extreme events through compensatory measures, and safely and economically determines an allowable dynamic control value of the flood limit water level. It ensures that the flood limit water level during a future period is controlled within a constrained range above and below the original designed flood limit water level.
Building on existing research, through more than three years of systematic and in-depth study, a relatively complete methodological system has been formed. Through expert review and evaluation, it is recognized that this project has achieved significant breakthroughs in the application of rainfall forecast information and flood forecast information for dynamic control of reservoir flood limit water level, with the overall results reaching an international advanced level.
This book is available for reference to flood control system planning and design, operation and management, and research personnel; technical management personnel in flood control departments; and reservoir engineering management technical personnel. It can also serve as a reference book for students and teachers in related fields such as “Hydrology and Water Resources” and “Irrigation Engineering Management.”
