Features: "English Salon #8226; Gold Medal Reading" is a revised version of the "21st Century English Salon Series." The original series collected the (heart and soul) of experts and scholars from China University of Political Science and Law, Peking University, Renmin University of China, and Beijing Foreign Studies University. Upon its release, it became the preferred choice for many readers seeking English reading materials. This revision not only enhances reading comfort through improved layout but also adds two new members based on readers' needs, forming a super lineup of ten books: "Life Sketches," "Joke Collection," "Listening to Famous People," "Glimpses of Celebrities," "Big Figures, Small Stories," "Witty Sayings," "Western Style Records," "Fables and the World," "Wisdom Stories," and "Masterpieces." Each book consists of carefully selected articles on corresponding themes, including English originals, Chinese translations, and annotations. The English translations strive for accuracy, fluency, and elegance, while annotations focus on vocabulary from the original texts. This volume is "Witty Sayings," which records the ambiguities and misunderstandings experienced by Chinese people living in English-speaking countries due to their incomplete understanding of English. It helps you grasp culturally rich idioms more accurately and master natural expressions. The book compiles over 120 amusing anecdotes of overseas Chinese encountering idioms and phrases in daily English usage. The material is authentic and lively, making for an entertaining read that allows English learners to easily absorb the latest American idioms and phrases. This book is highly beneficial for English learners and enthusiasts to improve their English proficiency and practical application skills, making it particularly suitable for those studying, living, or working in the United States.
