Features: Anyone who has visited the eastern part of England has seen the houses there. They are usually in the Italian style, surrounded by gardens of eighty to one hundred acres. The gardens are enclosed by oak fences, with tall trees and reed-filled ponds nearby. In the distance, a forest can be faintly seen. The front of the house is whitewashed, with a colonnaded porch that gives it an eighteenth-century Greek architectural style. The hall on the second floor usually hangs paintings and has an organ. I particularly like the library, where you can consult any book from the beautiful poems of the thirteenth century to Shakespeare's works of the seventeenth century. I enjoy the environment here. It's also interesting to imagine the lives of the people who lived in these houses when they were newly built. At that time, although people's living standards were not as prosperous as they are now, they were generally well-read and had a wide range of interests, with songs and laughter filling the air. If I had enough money, I would definitely buy one of these houses and share the joy of living there with my friends. All of the above are digressions. What I want to tell you is a series of strange events that occurred in one of these houses. I mean Castle Kirsten. Before my story begins, Castle Kirsten has been thoroughly renovated. However, the features of the type of house I described still exist: Italian-style porches, white houses with the inside renovated but the outside still original, nearby trees and ponds. In the garden, there is an ancient eucalyptus tree, which is lush and its branches almost touch the house. By 1690, this eucalyptus tree was already quite thick. That year, several witch trials were held in the area. Although there was not enough evidence, I believe that people have been afraid of witches since ancient times. Were these witches indeed extraordinary in their abilities and used them to harm their neighbors, thus causing hatred for them, or were there no witches at all, and the so-called witches were the result of forced confessions by those who discovered them? Personally, I prefer not to comment on this, and the readers can judge for themselves. The village where Castle Kirsten is located had a witch named Martha Susu. Unlike ordinary village witches, she was relatively wealthy and had a certain reputation. Several decent parishioners of the church had gone to great lengths to save her. The key evidence against Martha Susu was provided by the owner of Castle Kirsten, Mr. Valerius Susu. He said he had seen Martha Susu three times standing in his garden's eucalyptus tree at midnight, using a small knife to cut branches while murmuring to herself. Mr. Susu tried hard to catch her each time, but he always made a noise and startled her away. By the time he reached the garden, he only saw a frantic figure of a rabbit running towards the village. The third time, Mr. Susu gave chase and caught up to Martha Susu's house. He knocked on the door, but she took a long time to come out, pretending to have just been woken up, with sleepy eyes. Given the circumstances, Mr. Susu really couldn't find a reasonable excuse to enter and inspect, so he had to return grumbling. P.1-2
