Features: To meet the teaching requirements of "Chinese Folk and Ethnic Music" in ordinary universities, we collaborated to compile this textbook. This textbook aims to form distinctive features in the following three aspects:
First, in the classification of folk music, to address the limitation that the original five categories could not cover all folk music genres, we specially added the "Comprehensive Music Genres," referring to genres that possess characteristics of two or more of the previous five categories. Examples include Fujian Nanyin, Tibetan Ngama, and Xinjiang Dodecaphonic Muqam.
Second, in each genre, we strive to introduce song genres, dance genres, musical genres, and drama genres as much as possible according to ethnicity and region, enhancing students' understanding of the stylistic features of music from different ethnic groups and regions.
Third, in various genres, we appropriately increase the section on "New Developments," guiding students to pay attention to contemporary musical life and cultivating their ability to approach traditional music with a dialectical and developmental perspective.
