Features: ; The book "Japanese Reading Selections" has been well-received by a wide range of readers, and we sincerely express our gratitude. At the same time, we have received many feedback opinions, mainly regarding the insufficient number of articles included in this textbook, making it inadequate for actual teaching. Therefore, with the strong support of the publisher, we began the revision of this textbook. The revised textbook is the "New Japanese Reading Selections" series, consisting of four volumes. After nearly two and a half years of effort, the volume has been published and presented to the readers. Now, the second volume is also about to be presented to the readers. We sincerely hope that readers will continue to provide valuable suggestions so that our textbook can be further improved. The purpose of writing this textbook remains unchanged—it is still a textbook for intensive reading courses in university Japanese majors. and the second volume are intended for second-year students; the third and fourth volumes are intended for third-year students. It can also serve as a learning tool for amateur Japanese enthusiasts. The goal is to enrich students' vocabulary, broaden their knowledge, help them familiarize themselves with original Japanese texts, and improve their reading comprehension skills.
The second volume of this textbook, like the volume, selects 20 Japanese articles, including expository texts, narrative texts, essays, and short stories, with some adjustments to the texts of the previous version. The content of the texts covers various aspects of Japanese culture, customs, society, economy, and language, aiming to deepen students' understanding of Japan through this textbook. Each lesson still consists of a text, vocabulary, explanations, discussion questions, and "Japanese Cultural Notes." The translation of each lesson text is provided at the end of the book for reference. Additionally, some words in this textbook have multiple meanings, but due to space constraints, we only list the meaning of the word as it appears in the text.
The teaching of this textbook is primarily based on reading and explanation, with each lesson requiring 2–4 class hours, which can be adjusted according to the length and difficulty of the text, as well as the teaching objectives. The writing and publication of the second volume were greatly supported by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. During the writing process, we received enthusiastic help and guidance from professors in the Department of Japanese Literature at (Meihua Women's University). We take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude. Due to our limited experience, expertise, and time constraints, there may be errors or shortcomings in the book. We sincerely ask readers to point them out for correction.
