Urban Development and Urbanization in China: A Collection of English Papers by Professor Xu Xueqiang

Features: This collection includes 20 academic papers written in English by the author and published abroad (1 paper was published domestically). Most of these papers were published in international academic journals, while a few were published in English books. These journals are predominantly international academic publications with strong authority in their respective fields. Examples include The China Quarterly, The Annals of Regional Science, Third World Planning Review, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, and Urban Geography. Six of the papers have been indexed by SSCI.
In terms of content, the papers mainly cover three aspects:
① Research on individual cities. The 3 English papers collected examine Guangzhou's locational conditions, development history, functional positioning, land use, urban planning evolution, and social space.
② Regional development and urbanization in the Pearl River Delta. The 9 papers collected study economic disparities in the Pearl River Delta region, regional governance, cross-border transportation networks, with a particular focus on urban development characteristics under the condition of opening-up, urban development issues, urbanization driving mechanisms, industrialization, and urbanization.
③ Urban systems and urbanization in China. The 8 papers collected examine China's urban systems, including their size structure and spatial distribution, new cities, and the primacy of urban systems. They also study China's urban population growth, urbanization, and inter-provincial differences, as well as urban-rural migration.
