Features: This textbook is compiled according to the teaching (curriculum outline) for the Communication major in higher vocational colleges issued by the Ministry of Education. The book consists of nine chapters, introducing fundamental concepts and technologies in digital communication, practical application technologies of digital communication systems under various conditions, synchronization systems, measures, and principles at all levels of digital communication systems; the principles of spread spectrum communication systems, direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) communication systems, and the principles and technologies of frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FH) systems; the principles, structures, and characteristics of multiplexing, time-division multiple access (TDMA) technology; the multiplexing principles, methods, and frame structures of PCM30/32 base groups and higher-order groups; the frame structure, multiplexing principles, and advantages of SDH; the architecture, principles, and applications of several common protocols (e.g., OSI, TCP/IP, X.25, WAP, etc.); as well as the basic theories, ATM cell structure, protocol models, functions, switching structures, and characteristics of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM). At the end of each chapter, summaries and a large number of exercises of various types (multiple-choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, calculation, drawing, etc.) are provided to promote readers' thinking, understanding of basic principles and concepts, and to comprehensively deepen and improve their learning and mastery of core technologies. The book minimizes dry theoretical analysis, emphasizes explanations of principles in the context of practical communication systems, and is accompanied by numerous illustrations for easy comprehension. It can serve as a textbook for communication, electronics, and network majors in higher vocational colleges, as well as a reference book for undergraduate electrical engineering students and engineering professionals.
