Features: "Old Houses" – the common term for the ancient residential buildings where generations of ordinary people have lived. They are indeed old, increasingly distant from modernity, even their descendants no longer cherish them. They are either demolished or sold to build modern high-rises, which is understandable. With economic development, this destructive construction will only intensify. Old houses are becoming rarer, like endangered species of animals (a few famous historical residences are fortunate exceptions). What follows is the loss of valuable cultural heritage, architectural art, and precious tourism resources. By the time we realize the mistake, it may be too late. The unique historical atmosphere and cultural essence of old houses will vanish forever. Even if we build many new "antiques," it will be in vain. The purpose of this illustrated collection is twofold: first, to awaken people to the value of Shanxi's ancient residential buildings and to spare a few outstanding old houses; second, even if they are all demolished, at least leave some images for future generations or extraterrestrials!
