Since its publication in 2001, the fifth edition of Jing Kexue has been in circulation for over three years, during which time it has been printed and distributed over 250,000 copies. It has been widely recognized by faculty and students of medical schools and clinical ophthalmologists. With the rapid development of science and technology and the needs of educational publishing, the revision work for the new edition of the textbook has been organized and guided by the National Association for the Construction of Medical Textbooks in Higher Education and the Textbook Office of the Ministry of Health. At the same time, this edition has also been included in the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan" National Planning Textbooks for General Higher Education. This edition still adheres to the principles and requirements of the revision of clinical medical textbooks for five-year programs in higher medical education, striving to reflect the requirements of "Three Basics" (basic theory, basic knowledge, basic skills), "Three Specifics" (specific target, specific requirements, specific limitations), and "Five Qualities" (ideological nature, scientific nature, advanced nature, inspirational nature, applicability). On one hand, the content needs to be fully updated, and on the other hand, it must follow the principle of being concise yet professional, aiming for clear concepts to facilitate teaching applications and reference for clinical doctors. Since the revision of the fifth edition was not long ago, this edition largely follows the structure of the previous one. However, it has added some recent new content, such as visual acuity LogMAR based on visual angle, the international clinical classification of diabetic retinopathy, and new perspectives on central retinal vein occlusion. Some diseases have been given more appropriate names, such as simple superficial scleritis and Fuchs syndrome. In chapters on lacrimal gland diseases, ocular surface diseases, corneal diseases, and glaucoma, more diseases and highly practical content have been added.
