Features: Since the fifth edition of the "Surgery" textbook was published in October 2000, it has been nearly three years. During this period, it has been reprinted nine times, totaling 410,000 copies, and in 2002, it won the First Prize of the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Textbook Award for Comprehensive Ordinary Universities. The sixth edition of "Surgery" was also awarded the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan" National Planning Textbook for General Higher Education by the Ministry of Education. In accordance with the regulations of the Comprehensive Higher Medical Education Textbook Construction Research Association and the Clinical Medical Professional Textbook Review Committee of the Ministry of Health for the sixth round of five-year textbooks, we completed the revision of the sixth edition from autumn 2002 to May 2003. According to the principles and basic requirements of the sixth round of revisions, the textbook should reflect three "specifics": ① Specific audience, clinical medical professional undergraduate students for five years; ② Specific requirements, cultivating general practitioners for clinical medical work; ③ Specific limitations, different from reference books, monographs, reviews, and medical diagnosis and treatment specifications, the amount of content should be arranged according to the proportion of teaching hours in most universities. The textbook content emphasizes "three basics," namely basic theory, basic knowledge, and basic skills, but it also provides a relatively comprehensive introduction to the recent advances in medical science at home and abroad and the new progress in diagnostic and treatment techniques.
