How to deal with a 20-day-old baby with cerebral palsy

Patient's question:

Appeared asphyxiation (doctors said it lasted quite a long time), then used medication for the lungs (called something like bovine lung activity), breathing improved. On the 10th day, a CT and lung imaging were done, and the doctor said it was ischemic-hypoxic encephalopathy, quite serious.

Doctor's answer:

Cerebral palsy refers to a syndrome caused by non-progressive brain damage due to certain reasons before birth, during birth, or in the early stages of infancy. The main manifestations are central motor disorders and abnormal postures. It may be accompanied by intellectual disability, seizures, behavioral abnormalities, sensory disorders, and other abnormalities. Children with cerebral palsy have lower motor abilities than their peers of the same age. They have poor motor self-control. In mild cases, the movements of the hands and feet may appear slightly clumsy or uncoordinated. In severe cases, the hands may not be able to grasp objects, the feet may not be able to walk, and symptoms such as sharp feet (heels not touching the ground) and scissor gait (crossed legs when walking) may appear. Some may even be unable to roll over, sit up, stand, chew normally, or swallow properly.
