Features: To align with the reform measure of advancing the college entrance examination (Gaokao) by one month starting in 2003, the Ministry of Education organized experts to revise the "Full-Time Senior High School Chinese Teaching Syllabus (Trial Revised Edition)." After review and approval, the "Full-Time Senior High School Chinese Teaching Syllabus" was officially promulgated. At the same time, the "Senior High School Chinese Curriculum Standards," which were to be implemented, were reviewed and are expected to be officially released and enforced within the year. This "new syllabus" and the upcoming "Chinese Curriculum Standards" place greater emphasis on comprehensively improving students' Chinese literacy, catering to the diverse learning needs of students, enhancing diversity and choice, and reducing the prescriptive nature of recommended extracurricular reading materials. The recommended must-learn classical Chinese and ancient poems were reduced from 70 to 40. More precise requirements were proposed for the classical Chinese and ancient poems that high school students must master, strengthening the connection with the teaching stages of each grade and the Gaokao exam questions. The syllabus is becoming more practical and compulsory.
