Why does the baby always poop a little bit at a time?

Patient's question:

My baby is 40 days old. In the first month after birth, bowel movements were always a little bit, with small amounts each time. Sometimes, just after changing the diaper, a little bit more would come out. At other times, passing gas would bring out a bit. Also, there were many farts. What could be the reason? Why does my baby always have small bowel movements?

Doctor's answer:

Hello. It's not necessarily constipation if the baby has a small amount of stool each time. It could also be due to the milk being absorbed too well. If the amount of stool is very small and very dry, then it might be constipation. Parents can use abdominal massage for the baby to help relieve the symptoms. If the symptoms are particularly severe, parents should take the baby to the hospital for treatment.
