How to Control Newborn Hiccup

Patient's question:

Now the baby has been born for half a month. Since the day before yesterday, every time after eating milk, there have been varying degrees of hiccups, and sometimes they last for a long time. However, so far, apart from hiccuping, no other abnormal physical conditions have been found. What should I do about hiccups in newborns?

Doctor's answer:

Babbling is not a disease. The diaphragm of an infant is underdeveloped. Once the diaphragm or the chest and abdomen near it are stimulated for some reason, the "hiccups center" of the spinal cord will be affected, leading to belching and uncontrollable hiccups.
Secondly, please rest assured. Babbling in infants is not as uncomfortable as adults might imagine. Most of the time, it is self-limiting. After a while, they will improve and become less uncomfortable, unlike adults.
Of course, to prevent babies from hiccuping, the happiest thing for a mother is to hold the baby, pat their back, feed them warm water, cover their chest and abdomen with a warm blanket, and gently tickle their lips or ears with fingertips. The nerves around the lips and ears are more sensitive. Tickling can help the baby relax, and the hiccups will disappear.
