Features: For infants and young children, as long as scientific feeding is followed, nutritional diseases generally do not occur. The diet of infants and young children should generally adhere to four taboos.
(1) Avoid coarse food: The chewing and digestive functions of infants and young children are not yet fully developed, and their digestive ability is weak. Hard, coarse, or raw foods are not conducive to their digestion and absorption. Therefore, the food provided should be soft, fine, and well-cooked. Vegetables can be squeezed into juice or minced into puree, and lean meat can be minced.
(2) Avoid monotonous diets: Infants and young children easily get bored with monotonous food. To enhance their appetite, prevent picky eating, and maintain sufficient and balanced nutrition, it is advisable to make food varieties rich and diverse in color, aroma, and taste. Alternating between coarse and fine grains as staples, and combining meat and vegetables as supplementary foods, while adding 1–2 snacks daily. This not only stimulates the child's appetite but also achieves the goal of balanced nutrition.
(3) Avoid blindly consuming fortified foods: Currently, many fortified infant foods are available on the market. If various fortified foods are given to infants and young children to eat, there is a risk of poisoning. Parents should carefully read the nutritional content indicated on the outer packaging of the food. If several foods have the same fortified nutrients, one can be selected. Otherwise, it is harmful to the child. When necessary, parents should seek advice from doctors or experts.
(4) Avoid force-feeding: Under normal circumstances, infants and young children know when they are hungry or full. If a child is reluctant to eat, do not force them. As the saying goes in China, "feed the child with 'three parts hunger' and 'three parts cold' to help them grow better." P1
