Features: This dictionary is a carefully compiled language tool book for primary school students, designed for middle and high grades. The vocabulary teaching in primary school Chinese classes includes exercises for distinguishing synonyms and antonyms. A synonym refers to a group of words with the same or similar meanings, which includes equivalent words and near-synonyms. Equivalent words have identical meanings and are not numerous, often interchangeable in most linguistic contexts. Near-synonyms have similar meanings, sharing common connotations but also subtle differences. They constitute the main part of synonyms. An antonym refers to a group of words with opposite or contrasting meanings, revealing the contradictory and opposing relationships between things. Distinguishing synonyms and antonyms is aimed at understanding, mastering, and applying them more accurately, making our language richer, more vivid, and more expressive. It should be noted that not all words have synonyms or antonyms. Some words have both, some have only synonyms, some have only antonyms, some have synonyms or antonyms in certain linguistic contexts but not in others, and many words have neither. Therefore, it is neither necessary nor possible to find synonyms and antonyms for every word. Distinguishing synonyms and antonyms is a very meticulous task, requiring strict adherence to certain rules—considering aspects such as meaning, grammar, morphemes, word class, structure, word length, and emotional connotation—to analyze, refine, compare, and strive for accuracy and appropriateness, avoiding forced associations or misleading interpretations. At the same time, attention must be paid to simplicity and clarity to facilitate understanding and acceptance by primary school students. As a book for primary school students, the greatest feature of this dictionary is its suitability for their cognitive abilities and practical needs. To this end, based on the teaching syllabus and textbooks of primary school Chinese, we have carefully selected nearly 10,000 words from the vast modern Chinese vocabulary, most of which are disyllabic words, along with some polyphonic words and idioms. We first provide necessary explanations for each word, and on this basis, we distinguish their synonyms and antonyms. The total number of labeled synonyms and antonyms exceeds 20,000, making the content quite extensive. In terms of format, this dictionary adopts a headword-based entry system, with both headwords and entries annotated with Pinyin. Headwords are arranged in the order of Pinyin. The entries under each headword are arranged in the order of the second character's Pinyin, with disyllabic words listed first, followed by polyphonic words and idioms, ensuring both neatness and order. Students can first locate the headword using the "Pinyin Index for Finding Characters" and then find the corresponding entry.
