Features: The scene of commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War during the summer and autumn of 2005 is vividly before our eyes. To commemorate the efforts of Xinmin Evening News in this commemorative event, we agreed to publish "What You Don’t Know About the War—A Collection of Xinmin Evening News Reports on the 60th Anniversary of the Victory in the Anti-Japanese War." In fact, we hoped this commemorative album could serve as an educational tool to pass on history and inspire future generations. The album is not thick, but its the arduous labor of the Xinmin reporters for more than three months. We are delighted to hear historians praise Xinmin Evening News’s war reports for their novelty and depth. We are gratified to hear readers say: "This war report by the Evening News is completely different from previous ones." The Propaganda Department and the Municipal Propaganda Department have repeatedly commended Xinmin Evening News’s war reports for their unique style and passion. The reports on the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War are like an Olympic Games of news. They showcase the skills and strength of every newspaper and highlight the style and depth of a newspaper. As a newspaper that emerged from the flames of war and has a 77-year history, Xinmin Evening News has no reason not to do a good job in this historic report. "Flying into the ordinary households" is the mission of Xinmin Evening News, and in this war report, we particularly emphasized the broad participation of readers. We hope to showcase the weight of on the basis of expert discussions and historical material discoveries. Moreover, such war commemorative reports will be more authentic and three-dimensional. Our "60th Anniversary of the Victory in the Anti-Japanese War Special Issue" and the Ye Guang Bei published a large number of readers’ personal accounts of the war, commemorative essays, and family heirlooms related to the war. Over the months, we received over a thousand letters and calls from readers. Those trembling handwriting many became clues for some of our important reports. Fully highlighting Shanghai’s local characteristics was also a highlight of Xinmin Evening News’s 60th anniversary war report. From the "January 28th Incident" to the "August 13th War," from political struggles to cultural competitions, Shanghai has always been an important battlefield for the 14-year Anti-Japanese War of the Chinese nation. Even today, many astonishing feats and noble figures that emerged in Shanghai during the war years, as well as the countless national and family grievances suffered, are still unknown to many. With the help of war history experts and clues provided by readers, we reported on a large number of important events and figures in Shanghai’s war history, such as "Bombing Japan’s Homeland," "A Dark and Bloody Page in Shanghai History: Qingdong Massacre," and "The ‘One-Armed Priest’ Rescuing 200,000 Shanghai Refugees," which all caused shock and resonance among Shanghai residents. We believe that major historical theme reports must attract and move readers by paying great attention to the connection between history and reality. A report 60 years later that is purely a static review of historical material would make readers feel distant from themselves and the present. In this war report, we strongly emphasized the journalistic nature of the reports. For example, the report "Three High School Students Who Gave Their Lives 64 Years Ago in Zhaofeng Park" not only interviewed the only survivor, Da Shiqing, but also walked the same bombing route with him 64 years ago, completely connecting the past and the present. In the two consecutive special reports we specially planned, this connection between time and space was particularly evident. The special report "Finding Survivors on the Laborers’ Death Roll" sparked a strong response among the public, with readers providing information about labor...
