Features: As the saying goes, "The market is unyielding, but merchants come and go." This is a timeless truth. Confucius once remarked, "The past flows like the river, day and night." The tides have washed away many prominent figures in the business world. Who can withstand the impartiality of history? Who can defy the relentless march of time? With the passage of time, the rise and fall of Jifu have become a testament to history, an inevitable part of it. The family fortune was squandered in the hands of the clansmen, who were lost in their own reveries. The late Madam Ma could not rest in peace, either in heaven or in the underworld. In just a few hundred years, time has slipped by swiftly. Recently, the author made a difficult journey to pay respects. Upon entering the village, following the of the locals along the muddy paths, they turned down a narrow alley, revealing a dilapidated grand courtyard. The towering and spacious gate was also in disrepair. Climbing the high steps, they walked along the uneven corridors. Inside, the halls and towers leaned precariously, a sight to behold. The side wings were on the verge of collapse, and the central passage had long vanished. Only the wide, intricately carved stone slabs used for paving reminded them of a three-hall courtyard. The courtyard was overgrown with weeds, and wild pigeons fluttered about.
The inner courtyard was relatively intact, with the lifeless stone lions guarding the entrances still stubbornly perched on both sides. Especially the towering hall pavilion, upon closer inspection, still faintly echoed the former glory. A flock of pigeons had already set up camp on the roof, cooing merrily. Gently pushing open the long-sealed door, they found cobwebs covering the walls, and the damp air filled the room. This dilapidated, ancient mansion held so many stories of Jifu's business vicissitudes. It contained so much commercial wisdom! Time had taken away the grandeur, washed away the heroes, leaving only the fragments of the past. It invites reflection, provoking deep thought. The sparrows, making do with the ruins, built their nests in the eaves of the dilapidated Jifu main building, seemingly content.
The author asked the local elders where the Jifu family members were now. They all shook their heads, saying they didn’t know. The eaves and now seemed to break the spell of contemplation, bringing them back to reality. They recalled that once, a formidable female tycoon named Ma had dominated the business world. She believed her family's fortune was secure, destined to last for generations, and that her death would be a glorious one. Yet, neither history nor the hands of man could withstand the test of time, even for the most magnificent and luxurious palaces of kings.
As the author gazed around, they were captivated by the charm of the wood and brick carvings. The "Eight Immortals Offering Longevity" carved on the large stone pillars, the lifelike small animals on the stair railings, and especially the pair of stone lions with their graceful and vivid poses. The carvings on the roof tiles were exquisite. Upon entering the main gate, the sturdy, towering pillars immediately caught the eye. They had once firmly supported the magnificent buildings. The somber atmosphere and the lingering sense of decay seemed to reveal, prove, and narrate the rise and fall of the Jin merchants' once-fantastic family history.
As they brushed away the dust of the years and stepped into the ancient, almost collapsing courtyard, an endless stream of reflections filled their minds. Time had passed, the historical drama had ended. History had pushed the Jifu family from prosperity to the depths of decline. Could the remaining ruins still reflect the grand, boundless, and magnificent business world of the former masters? Could the spacious gates have recorded the comings and goings, the bustling traffic, and the sound of camel bells? Now, "it’s all left behind—only a vast, white, empty land!"
