Patient's question:
Low milk intake, sodium level of 128, receiving intravenous fluids in the hospital. What's going on? What are the causes of low sodium levels in newborns?Doctor's answer:
The causes of hyponatremia include:1. When fluid is lost, the loss of solutes exceeds the loss of water, known as hypotonic dehydration;
2. The extracellular fluid volume is essentially normal, but due to endocrine diseases, mediators are lost abnormally. If there is an abnormal syndrome of vasopressin secretion (SIADH) or thyroid dysfunction, adrenal cortical dysfunction;
3. The extracellular fluid volume increases, such as excessive administration of hypotonic fluid, renal dysfunction drainage, which results in dilution of extracellular fluid sodium, also known as dilutional hyponatremia.
The symptoms of hyponatremia vary with the rate of blood sodium decline. If the cell volume changes and causes hypotonic dehydration, it may manifest as severe circulatory failure, cool limbs, thready pulse, oliguria, and sunken fontanelle.
