Does constipation in newborns relieve for 80 cents?

Patient's question:

A friend's baby has been having difficulty with bowel movements recently. Every time they try to poop, their little face turns bright red. Sometimes, when straining during a bowel movement, there are even a few streaks of blood. It takes a long time for them to have a bowel movement each time. Their little bottom is red, and it's really heart-wrenching to look at. Can a newborn's constipation be treated for 80 cents?

Doctor's answer:

When babies experience constipation and are unable to pass stools, it is mostly caused by slow intestinal peristalsis, lack of water in the intestines, and overly refined diets, among other factors. When constipation leads to difficulty in passing stools, the stool may be bloody, which is often due to anal fissures. The first and most important suggestion is to adjust the diet. Ensure the baby gets sufficient water, eats more coarse grains and fibrous vegetables and fruits, and drinks honey water on an empty stomach in the morning. Constipation is a common condition in infants, referring to dry and hard stools, with longer intervals between bowel movements, and sometimes even difficulty defecating.
